The Power of I AM

The first article I ever published on LinkedIn was in December. It wasn’t that I wanted to, but had to. I kept encouraging job seekers to post articles and be active on LinkedIn. I wasn’t walking my talk though. Why? Because I am not a writer.

I went live on Facebook a couple weeks ago for the first time to educate my network about “mental fitness” and to share my life-changing journey. I used Facebook Live vs. LinkedIn Live. Why? Because I am not a teacher by profession.

When I network with people, I talk about my career transition from HR to becoming an independent coach. I never make it quite “official” though. “Soft-launch” is always my choice of words. Why? Because I am not “officially” certified.

Why are we so hard on ourselves? Why are we constantly feeding ourselves lies? Why is it easier to say “I am not” vs. “I am?”

It’s time to change the narrative.

This is not new news, I know. But how many times have you heard about the power of reframing, and how many times have you actually tried it? Like, really, really, tried it?

Here’s a good exercise. Think about a negative thought you have about yourself. For me, the loudest thought I have is that “I am not smart enough.” Now think about the feeling(s) associated with that thought. In my example, when the thought is “I am not smart enough,” I feel unmotivated, afraid, and essentially defeated.

Now create a new, more empowering thought (or thoughts). Even if you don’t believe it. Say it anyway. Mine is, “I am in complete alignment with my values and am learning new and exciting things every single day. I am exactly where I am supposed to be.” This new narrative is peaceful, creates balance, and in full transparency, gives me a huge sense of relief.

It’s now time to take action.

I AM a writer…and will continue to post articles and share insightful thoughts and ideas every month.

I AM a teacher…and will be coming to you LIVE very soon to teach you about mental fitness.

I AM a coach…and I launched a business in January. I have been coaching, mentoring and leading my entire career. I may not have a certification, but I have 15 years of experience, a strong intuition, and an undeniable passion to partner with others to reach their full potential.

This is who I AM. Who are you?
